Transcript: Special Meeting of Council - 29 Jun 2026

District of North Saanich · Mon, Jun 29, 2026 · 30 segments, about 400 words

Generated by YouTube's automatic captions, uncorrected: names and place names are often misheard, and no one has checked it. The time beside each paragraph opens the recording at that point. Download as JSON. Notes from the summarizer: The transcript has garbled captions in places and ends during the discussion of the in-camera motion, before the chair declares its result. The official motion list supplies the outcome, but the transcript does not capture the closed-session discussion or the adjournment. Three members of the public were present, but none addressed Council.

Okay, good evening everyone. This is a special meeting of council Monday, June 29th, 2026. Call to order at 507. [clears throat] And I assume there are no late items. I am seeing none. Uh so I look for a motion approval of the agenda. Councelor Deatista, Councelor Stark, [clears throat] any comments, additions of anything? Those in favor? Unanimous. I see Chris. Oh, she is there. Okay, thanks. I can see Christine. [clears throat] So, um, motion to approve the agenda. Those in favor, I'll do it again. I know there was a vote, I'll [clears throat] assume unanimous. So, now we actually have three members of the public here today. So, I'm going to make that uh brief uh statement for public participation.

Staff, do I need to go through the rules of public participation? Okay, thank you. Persons wishing to address council must state their name and municipality of residence for identification and also the topic involved. Questions and comments must be on topics which are not normally dealt with by municipal staff as a matter of routine. Questions and comments must be addressed through the chair and answers given likewise. Debates with or questions of individual council members will not be allowed. No commitments shall be made by the chair in replying to a question. Matters which may require action of the council shall be referred to a future meeting of the council. Each speaker [clears throat] uh must use respectful language and refrain from making offensive gestions or signs and is limited to speaking for three minutes or less unless authorized by the chair to speak for a longer period of time and 20 minutes will be allotted for the public participation period unless extended by vote of council.

[clears throat] So we have some members of the public here tonight. Uh do you wish to speak? If you do please come forward only to say we mistaken this meeting for something that it's not. Oh, [laughter] oops. No, no problem. Unfortunately, you'll have to leave. Um, so unfortunately, we'll have to ask you to leave because we're going to move into the uh in camera portion, [laughter] but you could still speak if you wanted. We'll see you at seven. [laughter] Okay. All you know it can happen. So I look for a motion to go in camera. Councelor Stark first. Second to councelor Deista. Councelor Stark. Yeah. I don't have um motion in front of me.
